The World Kidz Breaking Championship was incredible to witness in person, bringing together some of the world’s best Bboys & Bgirls including Bradford’s very own Bgirl Ammo! This was Ammo’s first invite and she received it through battling strong, whilst representing at Bgirl City VII in Houston, Texas in February 2024.
We were able to send Ammo, alongside Bgirl Labyrinth as her coach on this trip to the beautiful city of Ljubljana (Slovenia). This was a first for the Bradford scene and the opportunity wasn’t taken lightly by the duo. Going from battling together, to then as an athlete and coach dynamic, was exciting and an easy transition as they have already been working closely for most of this year, they were ready for this next part of the journey. They were also joined by Dom (Ammo’s Dad) on this trip which was also a first. It was great to see the support he gave throughout the weekend.
When you truly move as a crew, you will learn overtime how each member of your team works. This is in a physical, mental and spiritual sense. It goes beyond the moves and it is about how you can get the best out of each person. It is a big responsibility being someone’s coach and for Labyrinth, she wanted to make sure that Ammo put her best foot forward, continue to represent strong and to remember to enjoy the moment. This was a huge opportunity and it was important to soak it all in whilst bring present.
The duo arrived in Ljubljana on the Thursday, enabling them to settle in and get a feel for the city. Ljubljana is one of the most beautiful places that they have visited. When exiting the airport, they were surrounded by nature. The air and the streets were very clean and no matter where they were in the city this remained true. When speaking to locals they learnt that there is a huge emphasis on homegrown produce, farming and making things locally instead of importing. The duo loved this and it reflected in most of the places that they went for food. Slovenia also had some of the highest quality of drinking water that they had seen before, which was fantastic.
Before heading back to their accommodation, they saw the staging for the event. They could sense right away from the set up alone, how big this event was going to be. They were about to witness history and this was without a doubt true. The following day was the 1v1 Open, the 2v2s and also the group performances. This was a great way to kick off the event and build excitement for the main battles the following day. Bboy Kouadio (Les Borzo, France) took the Open 1v1 and Stimul and Tasic (Ukraine & Slovenia) took the 2v2s. Congratulations to these Bboys on their wins and for bringing great energy to start off an incredible weekend!
Saturday brought the 1v1 Beginner, 1v1 Bgirl, 1v1 Bboy & Country vs Country battles. Every dancer gave it their all that day! Although they were joined by some rainfall, the staging remained intact which was great to see as it showed foresight from the organisers on the dancers behalf. The really incredible thing though was that the audience, come rain or sunshine, stayed the entire time to watch the event. This was a beautiful element to the event, bringing together some the world’s best young breakers not just for our community to see but for the local people of Ljubljana to see. If they hadn’t seen breaking before, they would for sure leave with a lasting impression of it.
Ammo represented that strong Bradford style once again, making it through to the Top 16. This is a great feat battling amongst some of the world’s best young Bgirls. For her first invite, to be an international one, is a first for the Bradford scene. We hope that she can continue to learn and grow through her experiences, stay close to her crew and keep making her mark on the scene. We know this is just the beginning for her.
“My first invite to the WKBC was a crazy experience. I got to battle and watch a lot of high level younger breakers who are leading the way. Ljubljana is the most green and clean city I have ever been in and was a great adventure. I loved travelling with my crew member Bgirl Labyrinth and carrying on our journey from Houston, Texas a few months ago.”
“Firstly, I just have to thank Tech Styles International for giving me the opportunity to be on this trip. It meant a lot to me to be able to support Ammo on her first time being an invite, especially given how the opportunity came from our time representing in Texas. To be able to continue on this journey together felt amazing.
Ljubljana is an absolute beauty. I have never seen a city like it before. Breaking has allowed me to see so many great places and Slovenia is most definitely one of them!”
UK’s Bboy Jet-Zai made it to Top 16 too, bringing his signature style keeping it funky throughout the entire event! It was great to see some of the younger generation from the UK representing at the event. This includes Alex T, Jet-Zai, Kai & Hazza D.
Congratulations to Firebird and Raptor on their back to back wins and to the Bulgarian team for taking the Country vs Country battle. To all the UK dancers representing that weekend, keep putting in the work and remain true to who you are. It was great to feel the support amongst one another throughout the event, we hope to see you all soon. Thank you to OG Samson and the entire WKBC team for having us come to the event. What they put together was no easy task. Shout out to DJs Uragan & Catch as they did an amazing job all weekend providing the music. We look forward to seeing the next event!
Labyrinth & Ammo then travelled back to the UK, arriving back in Manchester Sunday night. The next morning they left to meet their crew Clean North at the airport to head to New York for the Dynamic Rockers 45th Anniversary Tour and the Pro Breaking Tour 3v3. They could not wait to reunite with their crew and visit the birthplace of Hip Hop together. What an experience. Stay tuned as we will be sharing more about this soon! In the meantime, please take a look at our recap video below showcasing the great trip and also our Flickr album below.
